This is the wiki page for documenting the latest Montreux Clean Beach Project water quality analyses, MCBP 2022.

After the publication of our open access work, we will be doing another round of sampling and analyses in 2022 - in collaboration with the organisers of the Montreux Jazz. Anyone can come participate!

The first documentation of the Microbiology Experiments around the Montreux Clean Beach Project can be found in this old wiki page.

The first compilation of results can be found in this other page.

The first tests of the latest R-Cards, the more ecological method for such monitoring, were done in Montreux on 19May22, this season's validation day. Cards are incubated for 48h at 35 degrees Celsius for the easiest scoring.

The new season will aim for best results, sampling surface water (0.5-1m) again around the bay, at basically the same 3 sites as before, but with 6 replicate samples per site, so we can calculate medians for better statistics.

The campaign is planned to run for 8 weeks, as in other years, from Monday 13 June to Friday 5 August.

With 48h incubation, that means we can do counts during open nights too! =)

Here is the official invitation for the big launch of the MCBP 2022 (in French, bien sûr)!

15.06.22 What a splendid day for the Big Launch sampling! 9 people participated (including 2 Hackuarium members). The sampling at the MRD site was slightly shifted towards a bit discharge pipe and included actual surface water, however.

18.06.22 The 48h results were pretty good, with counts made last Weds after 48h of incubation.

With the high lake water temperature (already 22 degrees Celsius!), we are not too surprised about somewhat higher baselines than other years on the lake. ( For instance, at SVT the median result of the 6 replicates came out to 150 bioindicator colonies per 100ml water, while VNX was cleaner (17 bioindicator colonies per 100ml on average). The MRD median was a bit scary, but extra controls the next Monday will be done to demonstrate if the shifted site (by discharge pipe) is the reason for this.

Will try to add a chart showing results, in this page, to follow as we get more each week!
